Carleton Chaplains
Carleton Chaplains, Winter 2020

The role of the Carleton Chaplaincy is to help deepen the spiritual and ethical life of the campus. We provide students, faculty, and staff with opportunities to explore the integral relationship between faith and learning, connecting the work of the mind with the heart and soul. We serve people of all faiths as well as those exploring spirituality in their lives.

The Office of the Chaplain hosts weekly worship services and special religious holiday celebrations representing a variety of faiths. We also sponsor discussion, meditation, and prayer groups, social events, service projects, lectures, and interfaith dialogue. A complete Chapel schedule of events is published each term. The Chaplains also serve as resources for student religious groups of all faiths on campus.

The Chaplains meet regularly with local religious communities to plan services and events. We help to facilitate student participation in local congregations and publish an annual listing of Local Church and Religious Services. For a complete list of current and future religious observances, please use this link to an interfaith calendar.

The Office of the Chaplain works together with the Religion Department to bring speakers and events to campus. We also work together with the Center for Community and Civic Engagement in providing opportunities for students to participate in community service and other work projects.

The Office of the Chaplain is involved in numerous ethical issues as they affect the campus. This includes helping to develop college plans and programs on a variety of identity and diversity concerns.

The Chaplains are available for confidential pastoral counseling and support to individuals regarding concerns about spiritual growth, values, personal crisis, grief, or depression. We welcome the opportunity to be of support to individuals whose concerns may arise from issues of ethnicity, religious faith, sexual orientation, social class, gender, race, or family history.
