How to Count College Students in the 2020 Census

Carleton students should be counted in the place where they would have been living had COVID-19 not displaced them. This means:

• If you planned to live in a dorm for Spring Term, you should be counted as if you are in the dorm.
• If you planned to live off-campus for Spring Term, you should be counted at your planned off-campus housing location.
• If you planned to be abroad for Spring Term, you should be counted where you expect to live and sleep most of the time now that you are not abroad.

If you planned to live on campus for Spring Term, you don’t need to do anything with the Census from home—the College will take care of counting you in our response. Your family should not count you at home, even though you’re home right now due to the pandemic.
