2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics
15 October 2019The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2019 was awarded jointly to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.”

Kanazawa awarded visiting scholar position
23 September 2019Did you know…
Professor Mark Kanazawa, on leave fall term 2019, has been awarded a visiting scholar position at the Ostrom Workshop at Indiana University – Bloomington for three weeks this fall term. The Ostrom Workshop focuses on the study of governance in a variety of research areas, including governance of natural resources. While there, Mark will be studying tensions between state and local governance of groundwater resources in California, and giving a talk on his project at their research series.

Faress Bhuiyan, Assistant Professor of Economics, published a book chapter in Alleviating World Suffering: The Challenge of Negative Quality of Life, (2017) edited by Ron Anderson. The paper titled, “Alleviating Mental Suffering in Rural Bangladesh: Evidence from a Survey of Three Villages,” investigates the sources of two types of self-reported mental suffering in rural Bangladesh: feeling worried and feeling depressed.

Il Shan Ng ’17 MEA Undergraduate Paper Contest Winner!
25 September 2017The Minnesota Economic Association (MEA) announced winners of the 2017 annual Undergraduate Paper Contest. Congrats to Il Shan Ng ’17, who was awarded First Place in the Senior Thesis division with his Comps paper “The Relationship Between Fossil Fuel Energy Consumption and Long-Run Growth: A Vector Autoregressive Approach.” His Carleton advisor was Stephie Fried. Winning paper contest entries were recognized at an awards ceremony at the 2017 MEA Conference.
