Charlotte Lobitz
24 April 2020Charlotte Lobitz, age 96, died on April 22nd in Mt Horeb, WI. Charlotte worked in the Carleton Library from 1971 to 1985, starting as an Assistant in Technical Services and then becoming an Associate in Public Services and Reserves, where she worked closely with faculty members and her crew of student employees.

Mike Jochim
10 April 2020Mike Jochim, 56, died April 9th after being diagnosed with leukemia just two weeks ago. Mike worked as a Maintenance Electrician at Carleton from January 2006 until the present.

Mylla Urban
31 March 2020Mylla Urban, age 78, died on March 29th after a long illness. Mylla came to Carleton in 1969, coaching field hockey, swimming, and softball. Her gifts for connecting with people and managing programs became quickly known and she took on a wide range of roles in her 30 years at Carleton.

William Woehrlin
10 January 2020William Woehrlin, age 91, died on January 9th in Northfield. Bill taught History at Carleton for 31 years, beginning as an Assistant Professor of History in 1962 and retiring as the Laird Bell Professor of History, Emeritus, in 1993. Bill was a deeply respected, popular, and caring teacher and colleague. He was a “gracious intellectual,” an eloquent, clear, and careful scholar, teaching courses in Russian, Soviet, and Modern European intellectual and economic history.

Betty Schuette
2 January 2020Betty Schuette, age 88, died on December 19, 2019, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Betty was a dining hall checker for Sodexho and Bon Appétit from 2001–2009. She was a caring and friendly face for all who passed through her line, and she will be missed by many.

Mary Horozaniecki
28 October 2019Mary Horozaniecki, age 68, died on Oct 23rd after a long battle with cancer. Mary taught violin at Carleton for 24 years, beginning as an adjunct instructor in 1993 and retiring as Senior Lecturer in Violin and Viola in 2017. “Mrs. H,” as she was known to her students, was a cheerful, supportive, and effective teacher and a gracious and generous colleague.

Patty Olson
23 October 2019Patty Olson, age 72, died October 22, after a hard battle with cancer. Patty worked at Carleton for 36 years, beginning as a Data Systems Specialist and Computer Operator in 1974 and retiring as a User Support Specialist with Information Technology Services in 2010. With the huge changes in computing during those years, Patty kept up with learning about all the new technologies. She launched into everything with a smile and positive energy, which made working with her a real joy.

Rebecca Carel
12 August 2019Rebecca Carel, age 66, died on August 8th after an illness. Becky was a part-time Recreation Center staff and Building Supervisor from 2006 to the present, where she was always willing to pitch in and provide valuable ideas. She cared deeply about others, including their wellness and fitness. Becky loved being around students and people always enjoyed being around her. Becky’s smile and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.

John Tymoczko
27 May 2019John Tymoczko, age 70, died May 26th of a heart attack. John taught Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Carleton for 39 years, beginning in 1976 as an Assistant Professor of Biology and retiring in 2015 as the Towsley Professor of Biology, Emeritus.

Phil Stark
16 May 2019John Philip Stark recently passed away at the age of 73. Phil worked at Carleton for 33 years with many different titles, beginning in 1980 as the Director of Media Services and retiring in 2013 as the Technical Coordinator for Events in College Relations.
