Summer Internship 2019 in Port of Tacoma
12 April 2019Mike Nishizaki has been in contact with two researchers working at the Port of Tacoma, who are advertising for a paid internship this summer.
This internship will assist the Port’s Environmental Remediation Team and the GIS staff to create a monitoring well database. Interns will be paid $15/hour, and run for three months.

For credit “study-away” opportunity in ocean sciences and engineering at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
28 February 2019The Semester at WHOI Program was initiated in 2015, and 12 students (2 in 2015, 5 in 2016, 2 in 2017, and 3 in 2018) have completed the program. We currently (for fall 2019) have a grant to help expand the program that provides a scholarship of $7500 to anyone admitted.* Students who have completed the program have gone on to Ph.D. programs; a Masters degree program; and positions as research technicians. Deadline for admission for fall 2019 is April 30, 2019.

Applied Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) Field School
28 February 2019Our program provides a full set of technical, theoretical, and practical skills for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveying. As such, it offers thorough training for field work, processing, and interpretation of intensively modified human landscapes, in an accessible and professional way. Hands-on experience is an essential complement to previous or planned geophysics training for work in earth sciences, geology, geography, urban planning, architecture, surveying, civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental studies, landscaping, forensics, anthropology, archaeology, cultural resource management (CRM), Classics, and/or history.

Penn State REU 2019 Project Drawdown
28 February 2019Coming up this summer, Penn State is hosting up to 40 students for a “research experience for undergrads” (REU) to work on projects related to Project Drawdown. Project Drawdown is focused on implementing a wide range of solutions to reversing global warming.

Wasatch-Uinta Field Camp
12 February 2019The Wasatch-Uinta Field Camp still has several open spots for summer 2019. If any of your students are looking for field camp, please encourage them to check it out at fieldcamp.org. Application directions can be found here (http://fieldcamp.org/content/enrollment-fees).
The Wasatch-Uinta Field Camp is a six-week capstone course designed to prepare students for successful careers in the geosciences. We emphasize scientific methodology and traditional techniques that provide a strong foundation for the broad range of modern technologies used by today’s industry, academic, government and private workforces.

Travel to Tenerife: Hydrology Field Training Camp
12 February 2019We are pleased to announce that the 3rd annual Hydrology Field Training Camp (HydroCamp) run by GeoTenerife is now open for applications! We believe this may be of interest to your students.
Our two-week GeoTenerife field training camp, from the 7th – 21st September 2019, will see students:
- Learn key transferable skills from a team of professors, technicians and researchers at the Chemical Engineering department of ULL University
- Undertake technical tours led by the Chief Engineer of water treatment and supply installations on the island
- Receive a programme of complementary visits organised by GeoTenerife to traditional and innovative installations related to water capture and bottling.
