The Humanities Center is pleased to announce the faculty fellows for the academic year 2017-2018. The topic for next year’s Humanities Center – GEI Research Seminar is “Rethinking the Commons and Politics in the Democratic Public Sphere,” and the seminar organizer is Ross Elfline, Associate Professor of Art History.

Summer Research Assistant Awards – Summer 2016

On Friday, October 23, several Humanities Center Research Assistants presented the results of their summer research collaborations at the annual Student Research Symposium and Celebration held at the Weitz Center.

The Humanities Center is pleased to announce the faculty fellows for the academic year 2015-2016.

Recently, an alum wrote and reflected on the value of her education in the humanities: “Humanistic inquiry has the power to nourish the elasticity of the individual and social mind, as it facilitates our capacity to develop out of ourselves in our own way—to transform and incorporate into ourselves what is past and foreign to heal wounds, replace what has been lost, recreate broken molds. In December 2013, Professor Tun Myint (Political Science) and his Student Research Assistant Jackson Bahn ’16 traveled to Myanmar (Burma) for 20 days in order to begin research on a public memory project on the era of student protests and unrest in the 1980s.

In summer 2012 Mari Ortiz ’13 and professor Adriana Estill collaborated on a research project that examined how Hollywood and the American press influenced perceptions of Latina beauty in the ’20s and ’30s
